I did an online Hair Marathon!
As much as I have been frustrated with lockdown, and not being able to see clients, it has given me the opportunity to do a lot of training, some of it free, and some of it I have been happy to pay for. We never stop learning, whether we are improving our hygiene practices, how to run our businesses better, or new hair and makeup techniques, and for me, I think all of these contribute equally to being able to provide the best service possible. I have been an admirer of George Kot's work since before I even trained as a hair and makeup artist, but my Russian isn't very good (although I am learning!), and I can't really afford the travel to Russia, so I just never thought that I would be able to learn from him. HOWEVER during lockdown, he actually created 4 online marathon courses, and the other week I completed one, and signed up to another one!
It was a really intense week, learning a lot of techniques that were completely new to me. He had a translator, so after every sentence he spoke in Russian, his translator repeated in English. Every day for 5 days, he posted a new tutorial in a private Instagram account that only participants of the course had access to, and once we had watched the tutorial, we had to go and practice the new design. The first time round trying these new styles took me around 4 hours for each design! I wasn't worried about how long it took me to complete each hairstyle though as I really wanted to take the time to understand his techniques and how to apply them, and some of the techniques didn't relly sink in until I tried them for a second time a few days later, in which it took about half the time to complete, and I know that if I were to try them again, they would be even slicker!
After the tutorials finished we had a couple of days to redo any hairstyles we wanted to improve on (I managed to do this for 4 out of 5 of them!) before he assessed our work and awarded our certificates. It was really challenging, but I am so glad I took part, and I can't wait to make a start on the other set of 6 hairstyles, and to show you how I get on with those! Below is a little gallery of the hairstyles I created, as well as some side by side comparisons from my first attempts!
I hope you like these styles, and if you do have any questions, please let me know in the comments!
